McDavid-Darla-Aug-2013-DWThanks for visiting!

UPDATE, NOVEMBER 2014: I am no longer adding new posts to this site, but please enjoy my collection of posts that I wrote from 2011 to 2014. Please visit me at DarlaMcDavid.com for new posts.

Following is the text from my original Darla Writes “About” page. Click here to read a more personal”About” page on my new website.

I’m Darla McDavid and I love to write. One of my dreams is to write a book that attracts a publisher and warms a lot of hearts with the story it tells.

What does it take to turn a dream like mine into a reality? Sure, I can write. But can I write well? Thinking about that brought more questions to mind:

  • What type of writer am I?
  • How do my writing skills compare with other writers?
  • What makes me think people will enjoy my writings?
  • What do I know about the writing business?
  • Is it necessary to know about Facebook, Twitter, and all that other stuff?
  • Who’s going to help me with all of this?

My answers were fuzzy, so I decided it was time to take action with research and a plan. And from that came an idea: Create a blog to share what I learn. That’s how Darla Writes began. As I work towards becoming a better writer with the goal of having my writings published, I’ll also be a resource for writers like you who share the same goal.

Here is my writing mission statement:

My mission is to become a better writer who takes advantage of today’s best devices, tools, and techniques to have my writings positively noticed in this fast-tech world.

If your mission sounds anything like mine, then join me and we’ll work towards turning our dreams into reality.

What will reading this blog do for you?

When you visit my blog, expect to read posts that touch on these three goals:

  • to inspire writers to follow their dreams of being published
  • to present resources that will help them write better
  • to explain technology that can promote their work

You’ll also read the occasional post about a topic I think you’ll find amusing or encouraging. There are several options for subscribing so that you don’t miss a post. And feel free to contact me with questions and suggestions.

What types of writers will enjoy this blog?

I hope that all types do. I define writer for the purposes of this blog as “a person who composes a message or story in the form of text.” And that’s you, right? Though I am mainly blogging for new writers of fiction, those of you who’ve been at the craft longer than us should feel free to chime in.

Do we really need another blog about writing?

Yes — at least, I think we do.

When I decided that I wanted to take my writing to the next level, I spent plenty of hours reading through writers’ blogs. Though many were helpful, I found myself yearning for someone who was more like me–an amateur writer, with no impressive credentials but lots of desire.  That was the seed that grew into Darla Writes.

I want to share what I’m learning. It’s as simple as that.
