Who is Darla?
I’m just your everyday gal who loves to write. My favorite part of life is being the mother of Dan, but I also enjoy my work as an administrative professional and a children’s Sunday school teacher. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of California, and over the past 30 years I have shared my writing skills with hundreds of companies and individuals. Most of this experience occurred during the 20-plus years that I owned a secretarial service.
I am also a bit of a computer geek with over 20 years of experience with the technology. Back in the day, I created files and directories with MS-DOS, repaired hard drives, upgraded the memory, installed hardware and software — all out of necessity and with no fear. Much has changed since I powered up my first PC all those years ago: a Radio Shack Tandy that was pre-megabyte.
The busyness of life, though, did not allow me to pursue writing as I’ve desired or to keep in step with what I call a fast-tech world. Since the Tandy first arrived in my home office in the late 1980’s, I’ve experienced several life-changing events, which took their toll. Eventually I had to give up being a stay-at-home mom, took on full-time jobs, and used evening hours for paid typing projects. I put aside my writing goals, and technology and social media advances sped past me as I focused on raising a son and making ends meet.
Well, it’s a new day: the busyness has settled, my baby is an adult, the emotional wounds have healed, and I’m feeling creative. It’s time to get back on track.
